a city destroyed by the 2009 earthquake.... The stones tell stories. Happy stories, sad stories tragic stories. Do not forget but are sometimes forgotten. "The church of lost stones" wants to bring to light the stories lost in the aftermath of the events of April 6, 2009. The intent is to build the church with the material coming from the rubble of the countries of seismic crater. Stones from : buildings destroyed, schools, homes, shops, lands waiting to be collected and relocated. Giving continuity to the world cultural Aquila picking up those fundamental elements that have built thousands of years its urban spaces. I dream that in 50 years on a Sunday morning, a small child can turn around the church in search of the stone donated by his great-grandfather. A conceptual process that wants to make the community participate in the construction of the church.
A process that goes beyond the formal but the roots based on something deeper about memory and love for their land.
From a functional point of view, the Church is spread over two levels around a patio. In the basement is the chapel of the memory space (a crypt) where is the constant presence of the stones lost boulders larger in memory of the foundation of the city and its Christian roots.
