Lufthansa German Airlines Facilities at Terminal One, John F. Kennedy International Airport (Architect of Record: Gensler Associates) was a series of lounges, food service, and support facilities designed to set a new tone for Lufthansa, one rooted in the local cultural history of the airline and the site. The lounges featured the deep blues, golds, and silvers of Lufthansa's corporate identity, and the swooping curves of their planes rendered in hand dyed wood partitions. It was specifically designed as a calming and restful environment. The majority of the views were inflected toward to arrivals and departures on the runway, but one section was inward looking, this separated by a large custom glass wall featuring the first Dutch map of the area when it was known as New Amsterdam in the 1600s.
