ICONSIAM

The large shopping mall on the Thonburi side is located beside the Chao Phraya River. It has the largest area after Central World and is the last area along the river. ICONSIAM also features the longest green public space by the riverside, which includes a ferry port, a tourist ferry port, and a private port and numerous activities, such as a fountain show and patterned floors, flow throughout the shopping mall. These features make ICONSIAM a major tourist destination for visitors from around the world. The designer utilized the lines and patterns of the water to create a connection between people and water.

“Water is life” is the most important concept in the public area design at ICONSIAM, inspired by the relationship between Thai people and the Chao Phraya River. Water plays a crucial role in life, encompassing consumption, transportation, rituals, and many significant events in the city. The designer interpreted water in various ways and shapes to highlight the area. For example, waves are incorporated into the flooring, Thai water games are featured in the dancing fountain show, and fountains are placed at the welcome area.

The designer also adjusted the area’s limitations for greater efficiency by differentiating the levels of public space according to the various groups of people using it. The area for the fountain show is the longest in Southeast Asia, measuring over 400 meters. The ground level of the shopping mall can be utilized for events both day and night, accommodating a large number of visitors.

On the 2nd and 3rd floors, the public space is more compact, with areas divided by trays of perennial plants. Seating arrangements in restaurants and small event spaces, such as concert venues and promotional campaigns, have been designed to support diverse uses. Despite these distinctions, the design reflects the continuity of river waves, ensuring that users feel no sense of separation from the ground floor to the upper levels. This design concept fosters a new way of living and lifestyle in the city, making ICONSIAM a famous tourist spot.
