Hortus Archive 2002: Pod Resting Surface - Prototyping and Production Phase

The Pod resting surface is inspired by the observation of the trigonometric (or unit circle) function and seed dispersal mechanism of the Magnolia Grandiflora seed pod. The intent of the piece is to merge art with function and give the user a tactile experience as a manner of accessing art and mathematics. Manufactured from integrally colored memory foam and 4 way stretch lycra and capable of morphing into various shapes to accommodate an intermission for 1 to 5 users, the piece regains it's sculptural quality upon release of compression. Patent pending.
