Anti-gravity Wall. A play in tectonic "Consider the momentous
event in architecture when the wall parted and the column became." Louis
Kahn The idea of combining two New York apartments forming a new spatial
experience for an art collector and her gallerist daughters comes from the
interpretation of a very thin surface becoming the main element in the space.
The play in tectonic eventually makes the surface a suspended thick wall
floating on the red stained floor and transforming in a massive transitional
element between the living room and the private quarters of the apartment. The
contradiction of a massive element being suspended on the floor is being
enhanced with a strip of LED placed in the gap between the floor and the wall.
The thick wooden wall incorporates storage space and a series of double-side
glowing fields that lit and spatially connect the living space with the
bedroom.The sensibility for the materiality of every architectural element is
found in the details of the project. The custom handles in the cabinetry and
the furniture all designed following the idea of an anti-gravity object. The
color palette, inspired by Jasper Jones Gray paintings, is a neutral background
for the family art collection displayed on the walls.
